This Scheme is announced by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for grant of Award to the Good Samaritan who has saved the life of a victim of a fatal accident involving a motor vehicle on the road  by administering immediate assistance and rushing to hospital or trauma care centre within the golden hour of the accident to provide medical treatment.

Name of the Scheme:

  • This scheme called as Good Samaritan Scheme:          

Time Period of availability and Operation of the Scheme:

  • This Scheme will present in operational from 15th October, 2021 to 31st March, 2026.

Main Aim of this Scheme:

  • To motivate the people and spread the awareness for in public to saved the life of the victim during the road accident in emergency situation and also saved other innocent lives.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Any individual person who has saved the life of the victim in Fatal accident on motor vehicle by immediate helping those victim and rushing for hospital to provide medical treatment within the Golden Hour of the accident.

The meanings of the Golden Hour:

  • As per motor vehicle act Section 2(12A) Golden Hour means last time period of lasting one hour to saved the life of the victim within the treatment.

Definition f Fatal Accident:

  • Any road accident involving motor vehicle leading to any of the following conditions during treatment to victim and certification by the hospital:
    • Major Surgery involved
    • Minimum 03 days of hospitalization
    • Brain injuries
    • Spinal cord injuries

Prize (Award) for Helping the Victim:

  • The award of amount for the Good Samaritan person would be 5000/- on every incident by helping every Victim.
  • Every cash award would be go with Appreciation Certificate. 
  • Besides award in every case, there will be 10 National Level Awards for the top 10 most Good Samaritans who will be awarded of every 5000/- on each incidents during the year and they would be given Prize award of 1,00,000/- each.

Process to follow this Selection:

  • Incident is informed to the police station by the Good Samaritan, after informed by the doctors with all details the police shall be provide Acknowledgement to the such Good Samaritan, on official letter pad, mentioning all details of Good Samaritans like name mobile number, address and the details of incident like place, date & time and how the Good Samaritans helped the Victim etc.
  • This Acknowledgement copy is send to the Appraisal Committee formed at District Level under the Chairmanship of District Magistrate as mentioned in the notification.
